Moseley Oak 19 - 15 Sutton Coldfield

Moseley Oak won their second game in succession with late Friday drama at Billesley Common.
They had dominated first half territory but the worry was that with a strong wind behind them, a 12-0 half time lead would not be enough. And this nearly proved to be the case.
The home side began well and enjoyed much of the early possession but a strong Sutton Coldfield scrum kept them in the game. However Oak opened the scoring with the first try
Minutes later, Oak scored again but the touchdown was not seen by the referee and Sutton regrouped. Just when it looked as though they were putting some phases together, Gareth Jones picked off a pass and returned it under the posts for Oak's second try. Jones converted.
Playing into the breeze in the second half, the key for Moseley was to retain possession but barely a minute after the restart a loose pass was hacked on by Sutton and they scored their first try. This was followed almost immediately by some good interplay and the away side crossed in the right hand corner for a well worked try.
Moseley Oak did not see much of the ball as the half continued and Sutton used the wind to good effect. With a couple of minutes to go, their pressure told and a score in the same corner gave them a 15-12 lead with almost no time left.
Moseley didn't give up and quickly retained possession after the restart. Strong forward drives took them almost to the Sutton Coldfield try line but resolute defence held them out. Undeterred and after a couple of penalties in their favour, Sutton finally cracked as Sam Hayward powered over under the posts. Gareth Jones converted and the full time whistle went, leaving Moseley Oak as 19-15 victors.
Still a long way to go to survive but an extremely important result in the relegation fight.
