Malvern 24-32 Moseley Oak

A much improved and more determined performance saw Moseley Oak achieve their third win of the season. Moseley started well and retained possession for the first five minutes. After a break from Pierrick Brunner, Paul Cox supported inside and crashed over for the opening score.

Malvern responded well and scored the next try of the match. They had pace at full back and strength in the centre all of whom were involved in the move. However, almost immediately Oak responded with a superb break out of defence and Rich Scott was on hand to finish off and score.

Back came Malvern with another well worked try of their own and the game was back and forth. Moseley again responded and tackling which had improved markedly from the previous week resulted in a turnover. Ollie Plunkett stabbed a grubber kick through and Kain Aldren-Barnett touched down.

Soon afterwards the Moseley scrummage produced a strong effort on Malvern’s put in and Ben Gerry broke away before finding Gareth Jones in support with the scoring pass. The half time score was 14-22 and Oak had secured a four try bonus point.

The early second half was evenly matched until a reversed penalty and yellow card against Malvern put Moseley on the attack again, and a series of forward drives saw Harry Dawson dive over for a converted try to make the score 14-29.

Malvern added two more tries and Moseley one penalty before the game closed with a hugely important bonus point win for Oak. Promising signs but more needed for survival in this demanding division.
