Wolverhampton 7 - 18 Moseley Oak

Moseley Oak travelled to Castlecroft for their penultimate away game of the 17-18 season, in good spirits from two wins in the previous two weeks.

After five minutes they got off to the best possible start when Jack Richards charged down a loose fly hack and Paul Cox showed good footballing skills to control and touch down.

Moseley extended their lead fifteen minutes later when James Burgoyne touched down, and the try was converted.

Given the muddy conditions it was not set to be a high scoring affair but both sides showed enterprise in the first half and the game went back and forth. In the closing stages, Oak defended manfully to hold out waves of Wolverhampton attack before forcing an error which resulted in half time.

The away side opened the scoring in the second half when Gareth Jones kicked a penalty after a ruck infringement.

Wolverhampton continued to attack at all costs and this resulted in a try in the last ten minutes to open their account. Moseley then came close again when James Hare sprinted down the touchline but was hauled down metres short. Moseley Oak settled for a second Jones penalty to extend their lead at 7-18 and the final whistle sounded soon afterwards.

Oak have now won four from five in 2018 and face another tough test against Lutterworth next week.
