Hereford 27 Moseley Oak 28

Following some very disappointing results, player unavailability and player departures, Moseley Oak followed a good training week with an excellent and determined performance at Hereford.

Several places above Moseley in Midlands One, Hereford are a tough side to beat and particularly so at their home ground at Wyeside.

In front of a good and partisan home following, Moseley began well and forced a defensive line out near the Hereford line. The Moseley forwards stole the ball and strong drives led to Gareth Jones scoring.

Hereford responded quickly with their speedy backs looking threatening. Moseley were turned over just outside their 22 and the resulting penalty was converted.

The Moseley scrummage was beginning to function and the heavy front five drove a Hereford defensive scrum with Ollie Thomas adding 3 points.

Moseley Oak have had a porous defence over recent weeks, however the return of Jack Richards and Tom Johnson was pleasing to see and from defence an excellent attacking move saw Charley Thomas apply the final touch. 15-3.

More points after 33 minutes when great hands from a number of Moseley players after a Connor Shrive turnover saw Duncan White drive over for a score.

Hereford finished the first half well with an excellent individual try which was converted and was followed in the 39th minute with a penalty. 20-13 at half time.

Hereford had their tails up ,however, an excellent attacking move at the start of the second half saw, a grubber kick behind the defence allowing Moseley 13 ,Jack Richards to pick the ball from the floor and outpace the covering full back to score. 25-13

Hereford charged down a defensive kick for a converted try, before Moseley had James Weaver yellow carded for a high tackle.

A lineout drive try which was converted brought the scores to 28-27. Mosley counter attacked, Gareth Jones touched down but for some reason which no one present understood the try was not given. Nonetheless,Moseley held out with great defensive spirit and came away with a somewhat unlikely but very well earned bonus point win.
